What does Background Splitter create?

It creates two image assets: a transparent foreground containing your subject, and an AI-reconstructed background with that subject removed. The original image is a preview reference, not a third output layer.

Can I just remove the background and download a PNG?

Yes. Choose Download Transparent PNG after processing. You do not need to download a PSD. JPG uploads also become transparent PNGs because JPG does not support transparency. This first version still processes both foreground and background; choosing one download does not change the generation cost.

How is background splitting different from background removal?

A basic background-removal workflow gives you the isolated subject. Background Splitter also reconstructs the scene behind that subject, so you can use both parts separately. It does not replace the background with a new scene.

Is the reconstructed background the original hidden scene?

No. AI estimates the area hidden by the subject from the surrounding image. It cannot recover unseen photographic detail. Review reconstructed lines, textures and lighting before using the result.

Can I choose which foreground subject to separate?

Use Subject notes to describe the intended subject and any accessories that should stay with it. With no notes, the workflow targets the main subject. This version does not include a brush, mask editor or click-to-select tool; ambiguous scenes may need another approach.

What happens to shadows, reflections and fine hair?

These details can be challenging. Check the transparent edges and the reconstructed background for residual shadows, reflections or missing strands. Glass, reflective surfaces and overlapping people are less predictable. AI processing may also change small details.

Can I download foreground and background as a layered PSD?

Yes. The optional PSD places the transparent foreground above the reconstructed background on a shared canvas. You can also download each PNG independently or both as a ZIP. Switching downloads reuses the completed result and does not start another generation.

Which images work best for background splitting?

Use one clear subject with defined edges and a relatively simple, visible background. A product on a plain surface or one person in a clear scene is a good starting point. A transparent image has no surrounding scene from which to estimate a hidden background.

How do credits and failed background-splitting tasks work?

The tool shows the generation cost before you start. Processing must produce both foreground and background to succeed. Failed processing is handled by the task credit rules; retrying an existing download does not run another paid generation.

Start with a clear JPG, PNG or WebP up to 24 MB, at least 512 × 512 pixels. Add optional notes to describe the subject you want to separate.

Review foreground and background

A run takes 60–⁠120 seconds. Inspect the transparent subject and the reconstructed scene. Check fine edges and the area previously covered by the subject.
