Why does my transparent GIF have white or dark edges?

GIF pixels are either fully transparent or fully visible, so soft edges keep a trace of the old background. Raise softness or defringe, set the edge colour to the page colour, or download APNG for smooth edges.

What is APNG, and can I convert MP4 to APNG here?
